threadheadthreadhead

I am turning 24 in a couple weeks and I cant help but feel like I`m the shiz thats gonna hit the fan. I am unemployed and have no money to look for a job. That means nothing for the bus, train, or interview wear. I have been out of a job for a while so no more savings and I can`t borrow being that I already owe everyone money. It seems like a B.A. is reqired in NYC now 2 flip burgers. I am seriously stuck. I want to go out and look for a job but I`m broke!! There are only a few local business` which arent hiring. This is getting ugly. I`m sure going on welfare won`t do anything about my job situation. Thanks for listwning guys. I know many are unemployed....if you have made it out the same hole pls tell me what I can do. Thanks in advance for your answers.

I feel for ya, man. I have a job, but it barely pays the bills. I'm either scrambling, borrowing from my 401k, or hearing from the collection agency every few months. And I have a 2 year degree, but at my company, this has me stuck as a secretary. I get passed over for promotions all the time for people who have no experience, but the 4 year degree. I'm wondering if I shouldn't just bite the bullet and go on welfare myself. Can't be much different from the struggle now.

But, enough with the commiserating, I DO have answers for you. I understand about no money for the train or bus, but as for interview clothes, you can always make something in your closet work for you. Find a long sleeved, button up shirt, and a pair of non-jean pants, even with tennis shoes. Just make sure they are clean and wrinkle free. If you don't own an iron, wash them, then dry them for about 10 minutes to get them good and hot. Then take them out of the dryer, shake them out well, and hang them up very nicely, smoothing them out. Pick a few nice days a week, get yourself 'together' hot shower, shave, hair done, makeup (if you're a girl), etc. Give yourself a nice pep talk. Get your resume together, and keep copies with you. No need to have them printed all fancy, plain white paper will work. Get a few copies into a notebook, then walk. Walk around your neighborhood, walk as far as you would want to walk for work every day. Then just start chatting with people. Everyone you see on the street, say hello, comment on the weather, tell them you like their hat, scarf, shirt. Whatever. Hold doors open for people, return carts for people who are loading their groceries, Any little thing you can do that shows manners and makes people receptive. This is called 'working a room' and will possibly give you an entrance point into a conversation with that person. When the moment is right, tell them your purpose. Let them know you are looking for a job. People are naturally helpful to those in need. A person walking around, being polite, looking nice, with a copy of his/her resume in hand is a person who is on the ball. Walk into businesses, inquire about hiring, but more important, interact with the customers in a friendly manner.

Also, sounds like you have access to a computer. Try out some online jobs first. Honestly, they don't pay much, but if you can even make a little pocket money to supplement your job search (and yes, USE the welfare benefits, that's why they are there) then in no time, you'll find that you can afford the bus or train fare, you'll be able to expand your search radius, and therefore your prospects, and you'll eventually land something that will be a good job. Maybe not a perfect job, but everything is a step at a time, right?

Just keep trying, that's all you can do, you know? I'm not one of those annoying people who tells you to to keep smiling, or always look on the bright side. You don't have to be totally positive. But I've always found that trying and keeping a sensible expectation in my head helps better than not trying or getting too down on myself. Keep on trucking!

Job's people dont want... cleaning crime scenes and death always looking for people..

porn- if you dont mine and dont have aids

giving blood

given sperm - uk pay's £30 per hit

or

offer to work for free, for a day.. to prove your self this will either work or back fire,

normally the offer PROVES your gonna be worth imploying so they'll prob give you a job

if they accept you offer and treat you like a slave all day and dont give you a job...((((( take photos)))) and then if they say SORRY but cheers for the days free work...

threaten to report them to human rights, and say you worked for a month they said they pay monthly, and every time you asked they fobbed you off they never paid you, or paid tax for you..

PRAYING on the vulnerable e.i you. is wrong and they shouldnt accept you working for free( even tho you offered)

would land them in a load of shiz ... ask for a $100 for the days work and for the photos of you ever working to get deleted.

this way... you get paid for every day you work... untill somewhere offeres you a job

Hi ThreadHead, Sorry to hear about your situation, but yes you are right, and unfortunately there're many around the world in similiar circumstances.

As a former teacher and careers advisor I would say that your best option would be to do some volunteer work in the meantime in an area that you either enjoy or that alighns to your studies. This will make you a lot more employable when you go for an interview as they will percieve that you are willing and want to work.

As for money, you could do medical research, fill surveys out online for cash or ipoints (and then sell the stuff) go around garage sales/charity shops and make a profit of stuff on ebay.Free-pay is another option to then sell the stuff. Affiliate marketing can be good with little outlay, although may take some time to perfect.

There really are lot's of options and you're only held back by one thing, yourself. Whatever you think in your head, you will live in daily life. So think constantly about how YOU WILL find a revenue and nothing will stop you until you do. Go here for some inspiration http//:www.thesecret.tv

If there's still no luck on the job front but you manage to make a little money I would then start to reasearch and have a think about where you can invest it to make more. Finally, there's no shame in going on welfare I was on it for 13 weeks here in the UK, just don't settle for it and then become lazy in the job searching like so many do.

Hope that helps,

Giuseppe

p.s. sorry for the essay : )
