How do companies find out about a person on the Internet?

I've heard that more and more companies are using the internet to find out about possible new employees. How do they look this information up? I am currently looking for a job, and would like to see exactly what is on the web about me. I do have a FB acct but don't have anything bad on it. Plus, it's set to "Private".
Can anyone help me?

Well, obviously, anything posted in public places can be easily found thru search engines like google |
