How do I go about going from a part-time job to full time?

I just got a call from Walmart offering a part time position (Yes, I know about Walmart's reputation). I'd like to know if I take the offer, how would I go about applying for/moving up to a full-time position.
How does it work in other jobs?

Well, you can get your foot in the door and show Walmart mgmt. what a hardworking & exemplary employee you are and you may get your wish. At some jobs, promotion positions are posted and lower employees can apply for the better job as an in-house promotion. Talk to the other co-workers & they will give you the scoop on job opportunities, and also thoroughly read the employee handbook. |

Some job is better than no job. Perhaps you could get another part time until you get offered full time status. Would also give you the time to further your education. |

I am not familiar with Wal-Mart but am familiar with some retail store environments (although smaller with Wal-Mart). I would take the part-time position. But, after working about a week or so speak to whoever does scheduling. Let them know that you are available to work more hours if needed. While you might not move up to a full-time position right away, you might waver between full-time and part-time for a while maybe filling in for sick people or those on vacation. |
