How do I go about becoming a qualified electrician? Help please!?

Hi, I'm 17 living near Bath and I was thinking of training as an electrician so that I can do some part time work whilst in uni (I go in Sept 2011 - so I have 1 year and 4 months) I think I could make some good money as a female electrician!
I've had a look online, there are lots of place offering courses but not having any electrical experience I'm not sure whats legitimate and if they make me fully qualified. Also they're a bit skimpy on the cost details - I'm studying for my A levels and trying to save up for uni - I can't afford too much! And as I'm studying at the moment, any course would have to be part time and flexible.
I might be looking for something impossible but I'd be grateful for any help!

There are loads of potential hurdles for minors in work, many of them legal, parents have to be vigilant about that. There is loads of assistance from the website in the box below on this subject, they also have assistance for all peeps who are looking for work, or who have to change careers. |

In USA most people will start out as an electrician's helper, after a while they can move on to become an apprentice, the time worked as an apprentice can vary from one area to another but when they have completed that portion, they can take a test to become an electrician. Many areas require belonging to a union before becoming employed as an electrician. |
