How do I get more hours at my job?

I am "employed" at a retail job and have been there almost two years. I have not worked for over three weeks now and it is getting frustrating. I call every week to ask for hours and also visit the store but I keep getting told "there's not enough hours." But two other workers I know work nearly every week and they have only been at the store for six months. One lives with the boss which is not fair because she gets to bug him about her own hours in person. With summer coming around I know it will only get worse as summer kids come in to work.

I am never late to my job when I do work, I don't complain or add drama and I work hard. The only thing I can think of is that I am a little slower than the others; I want to improve but how can I if I don't get called in to work? I even asked one of the ASMs and he agrees I don't work enough. What else can I do?

Currently I am applying to many other retailers so I can find a better job, but nobody seems to want to hire me and as for now I need more money.

If you are employed but not getting paid because there is no work, every passing day decreases your average pay. Considering 52 weeks in a year with you being out 3 already, that's close to a 6% decrease. So, if you were making 12/hr before, you have just downgraded yourself $11.30. Another week or so, and you will have lost more...

As the saying goes, 50% of something is better than 100% of nothing. If other places you are applying to are willing to give you the same pay, or even a $1/hr less, take it. You can make it up in hours. Or you will end up having a job, whereas your current retailer may just be dragging feet through the entire summer....
