How can I get prepared for a job interview?

squirrl of doomsquirrl of doom

I am being interviewed on Sunday for a job at the Springdale 18 Cinema de Lux. How should I dress, what questions should I be ready for, and what else do I need to know? Thanks

Firstly, don't stress. Interviews really aren't that bad! Now - To answer the rest of your questions:

Dress:

For this interview, I'd go smart casual - leaning more towards the "smart" side of it. So, for girls: A nice black skirt/pants with a blouse and smart ballet flats/heels. Or something to that equivalent. For a guy: Black dress pants, a button up shirt and dress shoes. Please don't make the fatal mistake of wearing white socks with black pants and shoes. They notice that kind of stuff.

It's important to be comfortable in what you choose to wear, but just make sure it looks professional and not scruffy. So, polish your shoes, iron your clothes etc.

Questions:

Most interviewers ask typical questions like "Why do you want to work for us?"

"What can you bring to the team?"

"Tell us about a time you've handled a difficult customer?"

"What drew you to the position?"

They will essentially ask you to tell them why you're more suitable for this position than everyone else they're interviewing.

Anything else you need to know:

A few tips:

1. They read body language. Don't sit slouched over, or say "Um" "like" or "y'know" a lot. Be eloquent. Pay attention and smile frequently.

2. Do some research on the company if you don't know much about it. Look at their website, look at whether or not they have any current deals - this shows that you're actually interested in the job.

3. Make eye contact with the person/people who are conducting the interview. Most employers are looking for a person who won't freak out when a customer/client talks to them.

4. Make a list of any questions that you have for the employer. If you don't understand something - ask them. Try and avoid discussing what you will get paid - that's for later on.

5. Get a good nights sleep the night before the interview. Just chillax before you go in - I like listening to some good tunes on my ipod - that way I don't get nervous.

I'm sure you'll do really well - Go get 'em and Good luck!!! x

Have confidence. You need to have confidence and show your confidence while you are being interviewed. Why? The employer is trying to see if you would be a good fit for his organization. Would he want to give someone with no confidence a leadership role or much responsibility? Probably not.

1. Choose wisely what you are likely to wear. Add suitable accessories and shoes to your outfit and ensure all is clean and pressed. Keep your outfit out-of-the-way and ready to go for the day of your interview.

2. A very good first impression starts with a greeting your interviewer. Practice doing it. A solid handshake and friendly smile are must do. An effective greeting sets off nice energy and the odds of the interview going well tend to be greatly better.

3. I suggest you know your resume very well. The only specifics about you the interviewer has is your resume. They might pick things out from it and ask you to elaborate. You may have a job listed that was several years ago, and the interviewer may want to know about that job so you should give that information.

4. Know your answers to the most common questions and practice them. Do your research and become aware of what the most common questions are if you do not know. Make sure you always be able to answer "Tell me about yourself" and "Why do you think you would be great for this job?"

5. Be familiar with the information about your desired position and the business. Always have several questions about either and ask through the interview. Certainly ask about anything that you are unsure of. It puts you ahead of other candidates and raises your probability of getting the job. However, never ask questions just to ask questions. Your interviewer will see through that immediately.

6. Understand the kind of interview you will be going on. Such interview different types are one-on-one, group, and behavioral. Ask your recruiter or whoever contacted your from the business about the type of interview if you do not know.

7. Learn the directions to your interview and never be late. Get sufficient time to get there and be prepared for traffic. When you are going to be late or get lost, call your interviewer or their HR and let them know right away.
