Help me save my job? I'm hopeless and desperate!!?
So I work at a large corporation, no need to give names. I have been there for about 3 years, it is a sales-oriented job. My mother had a knee-replacement surgery gone totally bad and being her only care-taker I had no choice but to take a leave of absence. Before I left, I was on great terms with my manager and district manager. I was on track for a promotion, etc. Everyone was absolutely on my side about taking this leave of absence as they knew my story and my mother, and how important it was for me to take care of her.
Here's the problem. Brace yourselves:
Since I have left, my manager got promoted and re-located to another state. Our districts got changed around and so we have a brand-spanking new district, and district manager. My new manager, whom I've only met once, whom by the way had a stinking attitude when she met me, is a total micro-manager! In the three months that I have been away, all but 2 out of the 27 employees in our branch have changed branches, quit or gotten fired. She is driving everyone out!
Since I have left and she has come in, she has given my desk to some new employee, so I have to share desks when I come back, or figure out a new seating arrangement. She has taken all of my internal-only documents out of my locked drawers, put them in boxes and thrown them in the back room(where janitors and such can actually have access to them!)
This new manager has also made comments such as if (I) am not back on the date I am supposed to be, then I am out of there! Additionally, I am a part-time employee because I go to school as well so I work 32 hours a week and she is giving everyone who is part-time 30 day notices to either find another job in the company that supports part time, or out!
My whole 3 year career in this company and all my hard work is down the drain! I am due back in a couple of days and I hardly know anyone there! I hardly know the manager or the D.M. at all! and they are heartless S.O.B.'s! One of my colleagues who waited 6 years for a promotion voluntarily demoted herself to another position just to get out of that branch!
Now my question is, I am so nervous about going back! What should I do? How should I act or react to the situation! I feel like I took a vacation from my home but now I have no "home" to go back to because it has burned down!
Any advice would be help full I am desperate and feeling lost!
Thanks.

Hello- I suppose I should throw in my 2 cents as I have dealt with both the duties of caregiving for a relative (my mom also went through knee-replacement surgery and several weeks of recovery- and it was hellish for her, and me and her husband) and the issues of management turnover in a company. Management turnover has been a commonplace at certain jobs I have had. I used to work in retail and several years as a hairdresser so I understand this is a tough situation. |

Just show up and go back to work. You put one foot in front of the other and let it unfold and make decisions as you go. When you get back, go talk to your new boss and ask her what your options are and what she expects of you. |
