Help and or Advice Needed-I'm homeless in Ohio!?

Okay, the company I was working for let me go. For whatever reason I cannot get unemployment benefits-company says that I was fired over a procedure I was told I was let go because they were downsizing. I worked there for 5 years.

I have been trying so hard to find a job-you name it and I applied McD's, BK, Target, etc etc! I spend most of my day at my local library or at McD's using their wifi to apply, or looking for the paper to search the classifieds. Its been 6 months and I have 1 more month of savings left.

I live in my car for the most part and have been living a few days a week in my mom's backyard (god as I'm writing this I can't believe this-she has a lot of land). I take showers at my moms or my dads-neither of them will let me move in because they either don't have the room or on a fixed budget themselves. I am 26 and have always had a job and worked since I was 12 (I usually have 2-3 jobs at a time)-I don't do drugs or anything like that so don't go assuming anything. I've been on my own since I was 17, literally this has been a bad year I got in an accident, my new car is a money pit, I've been sick, and now lost my job-basically anything and everything to drain my savings has happened.

I live in Ohio and I have been told I can't qualify for welfare because I do not have kids-to which I reply always if I can't take care of myself then why bring a kid into the world. Am I wrong that I can't get aid! I only can afford to eat 1 a day and sometimes if I go over to my mom's or dad's they will let me eat there too but not all the time. I'm straving and the cold weather will be here in no time-I'mliterallyy so scared of what to do! Iliterallyy fill out 20-30 apps a day-no joke! I've never been a person that's had a hard time finding a job, have never been without a job until now! I don't know what to do-advice please!? Can I get aid-is it true its only for people with children? I don't know if I want to go to a shelter, plus I live in a small town. The city that would have one isn't the nicest-I think I rather stick to my car if so.

You might not qualify for all forms of aid, but surely you would qualify for food stamps at the minimum. Housing assistance, too, but there might be a long waiting list, so you're definitely going to want to check on that.

When you say you've been told you don't qualify for welfare, have you been told officially, or just by friends and acquaintances? Have you done the official interview process thru the state department that handles those services? Filled out and turned in the application? Unless you've been "officially" denied, go ahead and apply anyway, because not all help will require having children. Plus, if they see that you are in enough need, usually they can make sure you get at least some emergency food assistance. http://www.odjfs.state.oh.us/forms/file.¦

And, for real, you should see if your town or any of the churches or nonprofits have a food bank. I used a food bank when I was unemployed for 5 months, and it really helped me out. Even if that means you have to heat up the food in your mom's house and then take it back to your car to eat.

Contact your local United Way (if you have one) or Salvation Army or any entity that would know about assistance programs and ask for their advice. They might know tips and tricks and things about your area that I don't know.

Did you appeal the unemployment decision? If you have any kind of written confirmation that you were let go vs. fired, then that could help you out in the appeal. It sounds like you got hosed, and that sucks.

Don't give up! I got the job I'm at now when I had one month of savings left, so it's possible!
