Have you ever been fired?

I think I am going to be fired... there has been a change in management and I dont think its going to work out.

I'm looking for a new job, but I'm not sure if I should just quit or let them fire me. I think I would qualify for unemployment benefits as I wouldnt be fired for misconduct... its just a bad fit. I also would be entitled to vacation payout and serverence pay if I was fired.

What would you do??

In cases like this it might be better to let them fire you as long as its not on some terms another employer might give a reason not to hire you. If you quit it looks better as long as you give 2 weeks notice. But if you get fired and qualify for unemployment and vacation payout and severance pay then it might be better to have them cut you as unemployment is only received when basically the company lets you go. Depending on the reason you are fired is the big thing though as it can change what kind of job you could get next.

If you are fired you will get your vacation pay and sevrants (if you qualify).

After that sevrants money runs out - then you file for unemployment.

You can not collect unemployment while on sevrants - at least in my state.

Check with your employment office to make sure.

Ask for sevrants in a lump sum if you can.

Also ask for extended medical - or the company may give you this for a few months at no cost.

Don't forget to manage your 401K well.

Don't do anything dumb like cash it out.
