OK people! I need some serious help and info!

I am a junior in college, and I am studying Communications, with a concentration in Journalism and computer techonology. ( as in dealing with graphics...odd and ends) I have also picked up a minor in Food and Nutrition. Mostly because I love food, and I have always loved staying healthy, in shape and top notch!

My DREAM is to be able to work for WOMENS HEALTH MAGAZINE ... or really any magazine company that deals with nutrition, food and sorts. I love to write, and I love giving advice on how to stay nutritious. I also love coming up with fresh new ideas on how to do so. The economy is horrid right now, ( obviously) and I would like to know what are the chances of me finding a job like listed above. Many people probably have the same dream I do, so I bet the competition is rather keen. I have a back up plan: I have decided to also minor in Business administration. A professor once told me that two things employers love to see is good communication skills and good business skills. It's good marketing and if I am paying for all this education, I mine as well get the most of it, right?

Maybe I could get a job working with a news station. I am not really interested in, " On camera actions", but more of behind the scenes.. maybe producing or collaborating or something.....

I am rambling.... Moving on: I need advice. SO my questions are:

>> Where do I even start searching for a job with Women's Health Magazine. ( Or any sort of magazine)

>> What are the chances of me finding a sort of job like that?

>> Is this business degree really a good idea?

and

>> IF I decide I'd rather work for a news station, how do I really go about doing that? Eg. Producing, developing, and what ever else they do!

Tips would be greatly appreciated! Thank you much!

There are a lot of jobless aspiring yuppies (young professionals) that roam the streets in hunt of a job with a good pay, great benefits, and less work. To get into the publication or broadcast industry is extremely hard because:

Spots are limited: Many editors/writers who hold positions usually stays with the company until they retire, so openings are very limited.

Positions are usually filled from within their circle: If positions are available, they usually hire from within. They don't usually open the position to the public.

Basically, you need connections and lots of experience to get through the door. Most publications are all located in New York. If you really want to pursue a publication job, one way to get through the door is through an internship. Internships in the communication world is essential because it offers invaluable experience and offers your first steps through the door.

If you are internet savvy, maybe you can get in as social media specialists or web specialists. Check out this site http://www.mediabistro.com (a job sites that list only communication/media job positions throughout the country)

Good luck~
