Graduate but can not find a job?

Category: Other

I graduated last year in CAD but still can't find a job. I went to university as a mature student to turn my life around when I really got fed up doing odd jobs. But nothing changed I am still filling shelves. I must applied for about 500-600 jobs but no positive response. I am also registered with the job centre but they don't seem to be any help. I even tried voluntary work but it is just nothing happening for me.

Any suggestions folks ? will be appreciated.

Depending on what job you are looking for, I would say research the sector you would like to work in, find out what companies you'd like to work for and check on their websites for vacancies, or contact them to ask whatever questions you have. Read the person specifications for the jobs you go for and if you have any weaknesses, perhaps do a distance learning course or anything that would be relevant to make yourself stand out from the crowd.

If you have applied for loads of jobs without any replies or feedback, try contacting the career centre at your university for a touch up on your CV, help with covering letters, interview techniques etc.

If your university don't offer this service to their alumni, which I doubt, you could always go via companies such as Reed. Reed has loads of graduate schemes and jobs advertised on their website. They also offer help with CV's and give you tips on how to kick start your career.

Also, getting a great job today isn't so much about what you know (unfortunately) but who you know. Networking is an essential factor when looking for jobs. Try to find out if there are any networking events directly linked to the companies or sector you would like to work in. Another suggestion would be to attend career fares. Once you get to know people in the sector you would like to work in, you can get helpful guidance and advice on how to achieve your goals, you could even be offered a job! :)))))

My advice is to get involved.

Hope this was somewhat helpful. Good luck!! :))))))
