I'm applying to Toys R Us for a job online, and they want my social security number.. Is that safe to give it to them?

Look for the security features on the application. If the website address starts with https:// and there is a small padlock looking symbol in the lower right corner of your web browser, below the website, in the frame part that goes around the outside, this means the website is secure so, as long as you're certain you're on a toys or us website, you have nothing to worry about.

Social security numbers are required on job applications because, if you get hired, they have to file taxes on you. I've never filled out a job ap that didn't ask for my social. It's just part of life.

If your on the legit Toys R Us site then yes all job applications ask for you SSN as long as your on the real site and filling out the application its safe to give.

I wouldn't give it tbh. Can you not call them and explain you are a bit concerned ? Surely they will understand this is as personal as bank details etc.

It is safe if the site is secure. Check to see if the url bar at the top of the screen is yellow or if there is a picture of a lock on the screen or if it says verified or secure anywhere

Probably yes. Employers do have a right to ask for your number.
