First day working at old navy! Clocking in Help!?

My shift starts at 10. does that mean that if i get to work like 10 minutes early i still have to wait until 10am exactly to clock in? this is my first job. Also, if i am working the fitting room and a customer needs a different size, do i just use the walkie talkie and tell someone on the floor to get it since i can't leave the post? i learned like nothing during training.

I know at the Old Navy I work at your not supposed to clock in until 2 minutes before your shift starts. I can't speak for all places but that's how it is where I'm employed. Also, my managers are pretty adamant about staying in the fitting room especially when it's busy. They've been telling us to use the walkies to let whoever is on the sales floor know what you need and then that person on the floor would get the clothing item for you. I would talk to one of your managers and see what they would like you to do. It seems to me that all stores have their own systems set in place!

No, don't worry about clocking in exactly on time, they will adjust it for you. If you are in the fitting room, don't worry you are allowed to go with the customer to help them find the right size and its ok to leave the fitting room unattended for 1 or 2 minutes...if there is another employee nearby ask them to watch your post for a second, or if you wish you can ask some one over the radio to cover you for a second, they won't mind...I promise.

Generally you clock in 5-10m minutes early and go directly to your station. Hopefully you will have a "trainer" with you for the first day or two to teach you your job.
