Do you think this is legit or does it sound like a scam...?

My boyfriend received a call earlier today from a financing company (he didn't mention the name to me if he knows it) claiming that they had been researching company files and resumes and thought he sounded like he was a good candidate for one of their job openings. They also invited him to attend a get-together? tomorrow night at 7 PM to meet with big-shot representatives for the company; they said I, his "wife," was welcome to attend also.

I just find this to be very strange because I've never heard of companies calling people who aren't even applying for jobs and offering them one, much less inviting them to attend a night-time "meeting" or "get-together" or whatever. It just sounds a little suspicious...I want to make sure my boyfriend is safe but I also don't want to make him lose an opportunity for a job if this is legitimate.

Any of you guys ever heard of this? What do you think?

Homework:

google the name of the company followed by the word scam.

Also try complaint, rip-off

Check the bbb.org website

Most of these scams are to sell insurance - like Primerica Company.

Hopefully that's not the one....
