Do I qualify for unemployment if my position is being eliminated and I decline anohter offer?
My current employer owns several companies, I've been working at one of them for over three years, they just told my that my position is being eliminated and they are offering me the same position at the other company, they will keep my same salary but they are asking me to work every other saturday and are changing my hours, I cannot change my schedule because it conflicts with my son's day care hours and I'm currenlty pregnant, they other job is a little bit further, about 10 miles further one way. I asked for gas compensation and they said they company is hurting and cannot afford that right now. I also will be selling auto insurance which I never did in my life and I just learned that none of the employees at that company is license to sell car insurance.
If I turn down this offer will I qualify for unemployment?
Sorry for the long post but I wanted to give as much detail as possible, thank you.

I belive that is up to the company. I am in the same boat. my call center is shutting down, the campaign we are in. there is an outbound sales position but we do not have to take it. But if another position in bound comes and we do not take it it means we quit and are not eligible for UI. So I belive it is up to the company. |

I'm not too sure, but I know you do qualify if your job is terminated. On the questionnaire they do ask if you have turned down any job offer, answering yes to that could possibly get you rejected for unemployment. You being pregnant could also be a factor of being qualified, so i am not too sure. Go into the unemployment office and see what happens, but I would be hesitant to tell them you refused a job offer |

I expect they have made this offer because they think you will turn it down and they won't have to put up with a pregnant employee on their insurance rolls and if you do turn it down it is the same as if you had quit and no you won't qualify for UI. I suggest you stay until the baby is born and wait to quit after you get your paid leave etc. It will be easier for you to find a new job when you are not obviously pregnant. |

They might be offering the same position. If your current position doesn't sell auto insurance, it is not the same position. |
