Career in IT Can some one tell me the best cert to start with or recommend a good IT training provider use?

Hi,

I am in need of a little advice, hope some one can help :)

I left High school in England at quite a young age and pretty much got my teeth sunk in to any job I could find. I used to be in to IT when I was younger (29 now) and was quite a wiz in my day ;-)

I haven't had a career in a field that I enjoy- usually find my self doing stock checks or working in admin for over time.

I have a friend that took up a course in IT from and studied pretty much from home eventually she became Cisco CCNA qualified then two or three exams later was compTIA A+ Certified as well.

I have read about MCSA courses a little too but dont have a clue where to start! can I do one or do I need to do all?

Can some one tell me the best cert to start with or recommend a good IT training provider to go with in england. I pretty much have my heart set on doing this but before I ring up and talk to SALES PEOPLE :-( I thought I'd find out about what everyone else thinks

Any advice always appreciated!!!

Thanksss

Jane :)

The answers here really do have a point,

experience does count for a lot in IT!

I was sorta in your position I had loads of experience but not one qualification to back me. I started searching last year for a training provider. U got to be real careful because some company's just want your money and will sell you anything.

Heres what you gotta do:

1) Research exatcly what field of IT you want to go in to

2) Look at job openings you are interested in and see what certs they require and experience of course

3) If your in England try PiperIT I found them to be the most reputable, helpfull & because I was unemployed I got a discount. there are others who I was considering like JustIT and firebrand but took comfort in knowing Piperit dealt with goverment training schemes as well.

4) Once you have spoken to your potential IT training provider & looked at jobs, make sure you are certain its for you. After 3 months of studying I get paid £24k so its not bad but each scenario has its own outcome.

Good luck with it all

Get A+ , take a short class in community college that last maybe 2-4 months, get your foot in the door and work your way up.

Doing it yourself shows determination BUT almost ALL employers will want to see relevant EXPERIENCE as well as qualifications ..

SO, to be blunt = unless you have a (relevant) Degree and experience all the 'professional qualifications' in the world are not going to help much ...

Most people get their basic education 'free' in UK (this means getting a DEGREE from a UNIVERSITY - unless you can afford to take 3 years out now, you will have to do OU (Open University)) and then getting a job with an IT Company that will PAY FOR your specialist training whilst you gain experience working for them ...

I suggest you consider starting at the OU and finding a job in a large international IT Co. starting with whatever IT post you can get & then working you way up over the next 5 years or so ...
