Career change...Social Worker/Victim Advocate?
Im getting kind of tired of the administrative/office work and in need of a hell of a career change/environment. I was thinking about paralegal, but really it's no different from what I'm doing, only in a legal setting. So I thought about pursuing a degree in psychology/human services (Though im not crazy about it, but I AM a people person). Can anyone give me any thumbs about the career outlook with this type of degree? I was looking into something more like victim advocate or psychologist or criminologist.
Thanks for your input.

You need a Masters degree for any Psychology position. A Bachelors in Psych is really no good on its own (although sometimes lower paid jobs as youth counselors at churches/camps/etc. may require only a Bachelors). Keep in mind that Psych is the 2nd most common major overall, and as a result competition for grad school spots is tough, and so is competition of jobs after you graduate. If you're committed to this career, then don't let that stop you...just be aware of what you're getting into. |

Psychologist is an iffy job. It is hard to get into the master and doctorate programs and it is very competitive based on how many people are getting psych degrees. It is an interesting field, but it's hard to do anything. I think a BS in psych is a poor choice. I know too many people with one that work as managers in retail stores. |

Lots of schooling but good for you to find a more rewarding career in helping others. To bad you need so much schooling for most of these things. There missing out on alot of caring individuals who would like to help. but hey if you enjoy school then its not so bad |
