Can you quit a job while on short term disability?

I've been on short term disability for nearly 2 months, I had minor orthopedic surgery (not work comp) and my employer would not allow me to work, even though I easily could have; I was forced to apply for short term disability because I did not have the vacation/sick/personal days to cover it.

I'm slated to go back to work very soon, the though of it makes me absolutely sick to my stomach. My job is a living hell. I can't bring myself to go back. I have numerous potential job opportunities and plenty of money saved, so that should not be an issue.

My question is am I going to be forced to pay back the wages I received for the last 2 months? If yes, how many days would I have to go back to work in order to keep my money?
