You should have signed up for an internship your junior year in college. Most Fortune 500 companies hire through their college intern programs. You'll have to hit the pavement and get a recruiter, go see your college counselor and use your college connections to network. 90% of landing your first job out of college is through networking.

Start at a Fortune 500 company in a specialist job making $40,000 where you can learn the ropes, prove your worth and transferrable skills then move up. If you have extensive management experience leading teams or projects you might be able to land a manager or director position, however; this will really depend on your previous work experience and your networking skills.

The main reasons why students decide to change their major

1.When high school graduates enter a college or a university, they are inexperienced and sometimes it happens that they make their choice of major almost at random, or they want to take up the same major their friends do or their parents persuade them to take. It often turns out that their choice is wrong.

2.Society and technology are developing very fast nowadays. Absolutely new occupations appear and they are in demand. This is why those students who are seriously concerned with their career planning and who try to keep in touch with the vacancies sometime change their major when they see that it has become unpopular among employers.

3.Finally, when a student understands that a different field is much more interesting for him/her than his/her major, he/she chooses to change the current major.

The main steps to take if you are thinking about changing your major

1.Consult college career planning advisor. Try to discuss all merits and drawbacks of changing your major. Be sure that an advisor will support you and give you professional advice.

2.Have a talk with the members of faculty, ask them for advice. Will your new major be related to the previous one? Do you have enough basic knowledge for a new major?

3.Have a look at syllabi of the subjects necessary for other majors. Are they appealing for you?

4.Talk to alumni who have the major you want to choose. Are there careers successful? Is the game worth the candle?
