It's courteous to tell them you're going as you might need a good reference from them somewhere along the way. Never heard of a job being passed from one person to another without the company first interviewing the person and deciding he/she is suitable

U can always quit ur job if u havent signed anything..

Its not up to you who the job goes to. You can quit at any time though.

I don't know where you live but here in the US if you quit you won't get any benefits from Unemployment.Better to be laid-off or fired.

If you want them to be on your Good side so you can write them in as a reference in case you look for future employment I would give them a two weeks notice. That just means your going to be quiting in two weeks and gives them time to find a replacement. If your sister wants the job let them know that your sister is interested and if you really wanna play nice then offer to help your sister get started before you officially leave.

There is no legal dependency on your example for this reason you are free to leave the company but you can't have any compensation.I understand that you dont care about comp.

However, since you dont have any authorization as legally you are not able to hand over your job to anybody without your boss's permission.Even so your boss won't want to find and appoint a new one probably your sister will be accepted.

Tell them what you want. It's unlikley they'll give the job to your sister, why should they? But they might. And if you tell them you want to leave, they'll probably accept immediately. But make sure you know what you want first! No point saying you don't want the job, finding out next day they've hired someone else in your place, and so neither you nor your sister has any money coming in any more!

Not sure why do you want to quit your job.

Anyway its your decision but I suggest you to quit after informing them with the reasons. And request them to allow your sister in your position, if she is eligible for the job.

This will definitely ease your probs with zero tension.

If you quit - without giving any notice then in some situations your employer can withhold any wages owing - up to 7 days. Ideally you should give at least one weeks notice. Giving notice is also preferable if you want a reference from this employer and as most employers are asking job applicants for references these days it is a good thing to do.

If not sure - check which award you are employed under and look it up for the amount of notice etc you should give

If your in the United States and you have not signed a contract, employment is considered at-will which means that either you or your employer can sever your relationship at anytime without real reason.

Having said that, I would strongly suggest ending on good terms with your employer. As an HR rep I would suggest giving 2 weeks notice as this helps the company bring someone else on and train them. While you already have another job lined up, you may need this company's reference in the future and by leaving them without notice will not get them the reference. I say give notice and work the last two weeks as normal.
