Can anyone help me make a resume?

I'm looking to work at American Apparel (retail) and this would be my first job. Being such a creative store as it is I'm sure they'll be looking for a resume that stands out. Can anyone give me pointers please?

Any advise/help is much appreciated. Thanks.

Are you still in high school? If so, and this is your first gig, no resume needed - everyone knows you have to start somewhere. Better to present yourself well and go from there.

You definitely want to create a resume, regardless of the job you are applying for. I think it's great that you want to make a special one specific to American Apparel and the job you are interested in! Not only will it show the manager how interested you really are, it will also help you to stand out above the rest. Since you likely don't have much experience you can well make up for it with personality, reliability and attitude.

Did you know:

¢ Only 1 out of every 200 resumes received by a potential employer is granted an interview

¢ The majority of resumes received are not fully read, but instead quickly skimmed

¢ You have approximately 10 to 20 seconds to persuade a prospective employer to read your resume further, once received

My two teenage kids are out beating the pavement as per my advice with awesome resumes in hand. Even if the place hiring wants you to fill out an application on-line, be sure to do that, then go to the store with your awesome resume and introduce yourself in person to the manager. For both my kids, every time the manager has written down their name to look it up on the computer.

As for creative ideas, think about the physical presentation of your resume. Make it something beyond words on paper.
