Can a person really have a lifelong lucrative career in retail?

I have been working in retail for about 6 years. During this time I went to school and recieved a bachelors degree in behavioral science. Since graduating a month ago, I have been looking extremly hard for a better career then retail. I have yet to find anything. The day that I will have to start paying my student loans is fast approaching in novemeber. Since I seems to be so hard to get a career outside of retail I am considering staying in the retail business. I am wondering if there is an opportunity in retail to have a fufilling career where I can support myself and pay back my student loans?
