Can I quit my job over the phone? Help?

So, I have been working at a clothing store since last Monday, so not very long at all. I don't like it at all, and I have decided I want to quit. It's just not the right fit for me. I was only planning on doing it for the summer anyways. Can I just call the manager and quit over the phone? I'm not worried about using him as a reference because this job isn't even in my career path. Please help.

It is still better to quit in person. You might not need the reference and its not in your career path, but you want to act professional and who knows, maybe the manager might one day be your manager again in the future....don't burn your bridge!

You need to write a proper letter, and give two weeks notice. Otherwise, the reference your will get is that you worked there, that's it. Lacking anything else, future employers will know that they were not happy with you.
