Becoming a Training Officer/Manager?

Category: Other

I want a career change and thinking of becoming a training officer / manager. The reason being that I like teaching/training people.

However, although I have a degree, it is not related to this field of work. I have contacted the CIPD (Chartered Institue Of Personnel & Development) asking for advice of the route to take to enable me to become a Training Officer. However, they did not seem to be very helpful (although perhaps I did not understand fully what the person on the other end of the line was trying to explain to me). The jist of the conversation was that I was adviced to get a job in a personnel dept of an organization, or a job as a training assistant, and then apply to do the qualifications via the CIPD which would enable me to become a Training Officer.

However, the problem with that is - how can I get a job in a personnel dept or a job as a training assistant, if I do not have the necessary work experience. I thought about volunteering to get the necessary experience, but that would interfere with my day timrejob.

Can you please advice the best course of action to take.

Thank you.

Evaluating a career is one of the most critical choices you can make in your lifetime. My son wanted guidance with his career choices in recent times, so he visited the resource in the box below, which has some sensible instruction on career decision-making. It certainly worked for him because he now is aware of exactly what he wants, and more importantly what he has to do to get there!
