Appling for job with local Police. Can they make you do this?

I was applying for a job with the local Police Department as an administrative assistant. I filled out all needed paperwork, but was uncomfortable filling out the last page. They wanted me to sign a release form so they could check my credit and look at my deposits and dig into my private life, and if that wasn't enough they sent me an 8 page letter with instructions on what to gather for their information giving names of people I know and relatives and much more. It just seems way to personal for a 14hr pay job. Is this normal? has anyone had to do this before?

As it is for the Police Department they need to be really careful as to who they hire. You will more than likely have access to their computer system which could have very sensitive information on it. They don't want that info to get into the wrong hands. |

Working for a PD, you will have access to sensitive and probably secret information. They are not going to even interview you if you don't pass the background check, which is what all this is for. If you are not comfortable giving out the info, you should probably look for a different job. |

Myself I believe that letters are good, assuming they are written utilizing good syntax and spelling (always use a spall chocker!). You can get some good tips for creating letters by learning from the site in the box below, it's got lots of alternative things about job hunting too. |
