Am I too ambitious about my dream job?

I'm only 16, but lately I've been thinking about what I want to do in the future. I've always enjoyed performing in front of people and I have thought about possibly considering stand up, doing comedic writing, just performing in general during college and after. But I know that that industry is very competitive and the pay is low. So I was just wondering...should I pursue this dream after college right away, or take my masters and have a good resume to get a safe job if this doesn't work out the way I want it to? I know it's a bit early, but I can't help but think about it.

Don't quit your day job - most stand-up comedians start out at weekend open-mics and did the weekend comedy clubs tour for years and yrs (lots of driving to out of town places to get exposure)- starting out you will be the last act - if you get any stage time at all - 2 am in front of 6 drunk people and you'll have to do that a lot - you may never get to the point where you even get paid for a gig |

There are many 'open mike' comedy gigs. No, to low pay but it will give you a chance to see if you got the stuff to succeed in your dream job. Follow your heart when you are young. Your head will catch up when reality hits. You might just be the next Leno, Letterman, Seinfield, etc.... |
