Am I quiting my job because I feel threatened?
I've worked 6 months at a local McDonald's. I'm 19, and it's my first job and most of my other co-workers are younger.
For some reason I can't get used to my surroundings, I make mistakes and I'm afraid to learn ( for instance I can't seem to get the hang of drive thru so I stay away from it) As a result, my managers and a couple of my co-workers boss me around like I know nothing.
I've become quite frustrated and I've decided to quit. That is honeslty my 100%. I never give any less.
I'm afraid I'm going about this the wrong way. I feel like I'm not strong enough or capable enough of enjoying work and being good at it becuase there will always be other people who I will let - get me down.
What do you think? Pathetic?

Work isn't supposed to be fun. I'm 17 (18 in 2 weeks) and have been working in a supermarket as a cashier for 2 years. It isn't fun. It never was fun. And it will probably never be fun. It takes a lot to be able to enjoy your job at a place like that. But your best bet is to try and adapt to things like the drive thru. If you improve your skills you'll be more of an asset to the company and they'll know that you know what you're doing. I started off getting carts and bagging groceries then I moved into register and even started helping in other departments. Once I'm 18, I'll be applying for a supervisor position. All you have to do is get used to as much as you can. Improve your own abilities and your managers will look favorably on you. |

Honestly, it's extremely pathetic. McDonalds is an entry level job...it gets FAR harder when you get older. |

McDonald's is a good starting place for your career. Yeah. you are going about wrong. Learn everything in that place. I know a guy who started at age 16 and is now in his mid 40''s. Mics is the Only place he ever worked. He is now in mid management earning over $100,000 a year. |

Im sure you can get a better job and move up, I think it is time. How about attending a free adult learning class, starting your own business or university, becoming an apprentice... the possibilities are endless. definately time to leave I think. Your life is trying to tell you something :) |
