Advice for applying for a job at an outlet mall?
I'm planning on going out today to apply for jobs, and I'm a little nervous.
I'm 19 and this will pretty much be my first job.
So I'm going to the local outlet mall and I'm going to pick up some applications, and I was wondering if anyone had any advice.
Like what I should say when asking for an application, if I should fill it out right then and give it back, or is it better to take it home and fill it out? Should I attach a resume to it? What should I say when I turn it in?
And I'm aware that it's a good idea to follow up on the app- how do I go about that?
If I get an interview what should I wear? What should I say? I've read a ton of things that say I should know a little about the company or what have you before the interview - what sort of things should I know? What, if anything, should I bring to an interview?
And anything else you can think of that could be helpful.

I'm 19 too & i just got my real first job at a mall two days ago! so advice... wear something nice but don't get too dressed up, i wore a pair of black capris and a more dressy guess shirt with flip flops but the flip flops were dressy flip flop's with rhinestones. so idk i wouldn't suggest wearing anything revealing.. when you go in just ask for a manger then ask if their hiring, (if the manger isn't there just ask for an application & ask when the manger will be in). i filled out mine right there in store and handed it back to them..it might be better that way especially if the manger is there (take your application home if the manger isn't there and bring it back when they said she/he would be in). if you have a resume then yes if you want you can attach one to your application you can (it won't hurt). But if you don't have one i wouldn't worry about it not for the job's your applying for it's not going to be your career right? Ask them when their looking to hire someone by and then you will know when to call them... my job said that they were looking to hire someone by Sunday & it was Wednesday, so i called the next day and i was hired!!!! I think they were desperate for a worker because they did my job interview right there in store & the next day i had the job! i got kinda lucky...usually they'll call you back (if their interested) for a first & second interview. but like i said if they don't call in a week or so, then call them, unless their date to hire someone was sooner then a week. When you call ask them that you came in and filled out an application and you are really interested in working there and you were just wondering if they had made a decision yet. They'll either say: they've hired someone else (they've filled the position), or there still looking over applications or they might ask you to come in and do a interview.. if you get an interview and then do a follow up you can say the same thing but they might say stuff like: we still have to do a background check or we have to look at your references ( call them ) or we're still looking at our options. Yes, you should know a little bit about the company so go on their websites...or you might just know from shopping there...bring your social security card, your drivers license, and your resume to a interview if you have one. |
