Vector Marketing and CUTCO question?
Hello
I am a 19 year old college student who needs a job pretty bad. Last year, my buddy worked for this company called Vector Marketing, and he sold CUTCO knives to people. He made approximately $3,000 in the summer alone. However, I went online to do research, and it appears that many people are calling this a scam for some reason? I understand that because you have to work hard and pay for the selling kit, that many people are upset, but if my lazy friend can make $3,000 in profit, then how is it a scam?
Even in I don't make much money, does it at least look good on a resume? (As opposed to a cashier at a fast food joint)
Thank you!

I am 34 years old, and I sold Cutco knives back in college for a summer. I did it part time, made $2000. I felt it looked good on a resume, because I went into a career in sales. It showed my employers I was comfortable giving presentations, doing cold calls, and working for commission. In interviews it helps to be able to say I did that. I could tell funny stories about presentations gone wrong, which made them laugh. I didn't really have a problem getting a job out of college. |

My daughter tried that. Yes, you have to pay for the kit, but you can get your money back if things don't work out. You have to make a lot of sales calls, but you get paid just for giving demos. It's true that many people call it a scam, but I wouldn't be that harsh. It's just that you put in a lot of time for little reward. The managers will bug you, because when you make money, they make money. It is set up just like Amway, the king of all pyramid schemes. In this economy, people are not spending money on knives and cutlery, and boy are they expensive! I imagine that many employers are hip to the company, so when they see it on a resume' they know what's going on. I think that any job experience is better than none, even if it is a cashier. The longer you are out of work, the harder it is to find it. Good luck! |
