Is retail sales experience valuable for a marketing career?

I'm looking for jobs in sales but I've also applied to retail sales. I want to start my career in marketing but right now, there isn't much open in my area. Retail sales is, and I need to know while I am at my location and get as much experience as possible, is this experience still marketable and valuable to future employers in marketing? I am thinking it would be since I am trying to give customers value with products that are sold and a retail associate would be in the front lines.
Additional: I have my bachelors in Mrktg.
