I am gender diverse and want a sales job. Non traditional applicant vs real world realities can you help?
Background: I am a male that has had a career in sales. I live in southwest Ohio, not east or west coast which would make this easier.
I am an excellent prospector and closer, I have worked in the insurance industry and have a good reputation for ethics and work ethic.
I am not wanting this to sound like a pity me party, because I don't and no one else should either. But for reasons many will never understand I am very comfortable with my feminine side, to the point of being uncomfortable not expressing it. As a 100%male I am miserable.
Many (probably almost all) who see me today think he is gay when they see me. For the female you know what I mean, my nails are manicured (pink and whites) hair is a little longer and neatly brushed, sometime using a straight iron, brows are maintained and arched a bit, you get the idea.
I am happiest this way. I don't think I look like a freak, but I do look on the fem side.
The clothing I wear is casual but not very masculine.
For the last few months I have not worked and taken advantage of the time away. I am getting ready to get back to work.
Question I am working on is how far can I go and still be acceptable in the corporate work place? In sales and marketing.
What I have found is that well educated people (in general) are more tolerate of me, some accepting quite readily. Women far more than men.
I think with my abilities if I niche myself I can still sell. But will sales managers hire me?
Be nice, I am for real, I am taking estrogen so it does not get more real than that. I really do not want to give up sales as a career and I have no desire to do retail.
Any constructive input, even negative (but constructive so be nice) will be appreciated.
Thank you.
