Does giving the boss your own opinion when asked endanger your employment?
Do bosses only like positive feedback in their favour? a while back as manager of a cash and carry warehouse the boss/owner came over to me and threw down a cheap logitech clone type keyboard. Non USB and no optical mouse with it. 3 navigation keys, email internet and media. He wanted my feedback before he closed the deal. Unit cost 6 quid, units a full 20 foot container! after i pointed out where was i supposed to put them because they wont sell and where am i supposed to put all the excess Christmas stock before the next shipment? he snatched the keyboard back and called the deal off. They were bits of junk, cheaply made and overpriced at cost. After that he started checking all of my Goods in, this is the same man about to blow 30k on a piece of crap. Do employers not like feedback if its not in their favour even if it saves them money?

You my friend, need to learn the art of tactfulness. Don't make out that he's an idiot for even considering to buy such junk. Make your views felt in a positive manner and then, maybe one day you'll have a kid calling you a jerk for your second rate business decisions and you can have them fired! |

There are ways of telling the truth. If you want someone to agree with you, don't start by making them look a plonker. You had a chance to demonstrate mature interpersonal skills to avoid a business problem. Had you done so, I am sure it would have been appreciated and you would have gone up in your boss's rating. We don't often get those opportunities so you might want to think about how you might respond to your boss another time. |
