Can I use an English accent when I make sales calls?

Category: Marketing & Sales

I make about 100 phone calls a day, and they get kind of boring sometimes... for all parties.

So I thought, maybe I'll spice it up a little bit and try to speak with an English accent, since I've been practicing ;]

Question is: would that be unprofessional?

Of course it would be unprofessional but hilarious! I say do it. I used to work in a call center and there would be times that we would just be leaving message after message. The girl that sat next to me did a British accent all the time. It cracked me up. Also, my friend told me that she goes to Taco Bell sometimes through the drive through and there is this kid who works there that always takes her order with a different accent. She said one time it was British, and one time it was Jamaican. ...hilarious!

Funny the company I work for allows it but their rule is you have to do that same voice on every call so it would get boring still but it's funny hearing my neighbor doing a jamaican accent on the phone and when he gets off he sounds all ivy league, it is entertaining

sometimes he slips up in the middle of the call I always wonder what that caller must think lol

I think it would be awesome but you could potentially damage your credibility with your future customer.

I'm not entirely sure what you mean by an "English Accent"?

The accent varies hugely from one part of England to another.

If you use an RP accent I think people might think you are making fun of them.

If you use a cockney (or mockney) accent nobody will trust you.

If you must use any accent use a Yorkshire accent, it's the warmest and perceived as the most trustworthy.
