Would the fact that I have a law degree prevent me from getting a job in Business Dev or Corporate Dev?

I graduated from law school about a year ago and my emphasis was "Business Law". After giving it a great deal of thought I have decided that a career as a lawyer is not for me, esspecially in a big law firm. I am now interested in pursuing a career in Business Development or Corporate Development, preferably at a startup. I have a year as a Business Development intern and have done some consulting in terms of corporate development. But I was wondering if, in general, how would be the best way to explain to employees the fact that I have a law degree but am interested in pursuing a career in Business Development or Corporate Development? Should I explain this in my cover letter?

Just tell them you couldn't find a job as a lawyer and decided to pursue another career path. Or leave the JD off your resume entirely.
