Will my reference change if I re-apply to old job?

This is a bit long-winded so I'll try and get to the point.

I had to resign from my last job as I was being investigated for Gross Misconduct - I was very honest and owned up to what I did but decided to resign as I would get a clean reference.

Now, 6 months later I'm tempted to re-apply to my old position. I was good at this job, liked the people and ultimately wanted to carve out a career there. I totally regret what I did and the Managers know this and did feel sympathy for me - it was just a stupid mistake.

Now, I know that if I do re-apply, the employer will need to complete the disciplinary investigation against me before my re-application can go any further. What I need to know is, if the investigation is completed and it turns out they would have fired me, would this in turn change the current reference they give out to future employees?

They will NOT go through the disciplinary = that was abandoned / stopped when you resigned ..

In the highly unlikely event they decide to offer you a job, you will start with a 'clean slate', just like any other new employee (that includes the 13 week probation period and the 1 year wait before you qualify for employment protection).

Should they not offer you a job, there is no reason for the References to change.

I honestly think you have no chance. You left before the hearing and had no chance of clearing your name. Why in this time of reccession would a company bother to go through an investigation, when there are 100s of people they could employ with no hassle.
