What happens if I don't return my security jacket & shirt after I quit?

When I got hired by the security company they take out 50 bucks a check for the first 3 checks to pay for your uniform. They do this to make sure you return the uniform. I was eavesdropping on my supervisor one day and he was telling a cop that they can't legally hold those 150 deposits in case someone claims to have lost it or w/e. It's been a few months since I left and I still haven't received my $150 check or returned the clothes. A security friend recently told me that the same supervisor told him that they can charge like 5 thousand bucks or something OR get "collections" on me and ruin my credit.. anybody know anything relating to this?

Regardless if it is legal or not, why not just return the uniform? When you do, have them sign a paper that on such and such date, you returned it. Then you should get your $150 back. I would think you would like to have that $150 back if not to celebrate you are no longer working there.

All depends on how management handles it, and the size of the company. Usually security companies are pretty large and tightly managed.

You should have signed something saying you are making a deposit on your jacket and agree to return it.

That contract gives them the right to get collections on you to get the money you owe to replace the jacket. I would just give them the jacket if you signed something. If you did not sign any paper work saying you will in any way return that jacket, than keep it! I suggest.
