Ok basically I got let go from my job on the 7th as there was no working going. I went to the job centre and claimed job seekers allowance and housing benefit. I am living with my partner, he is a full time student and the job centre said this wouldn't be a problem as he will be exempt and I will be a single claim. Today I got my benefit letter through saying what I am entitled to. The said because my partner has his student loan of £480 a month I am only entitled to £9 a week?? He stops uni for the summer holidays his last loan was in May. So in June they are changing it to a joint claim and we will get £101 or so a week but he is still a student so he can't claim jobseekers allowance and they know this
How can this be right?
- they told me he would be exempt as he is a full time student
- even though he has this money, it is his money to fund his course for the year, NOT ME!

They are right but you can claim housing benefit separately - try the website Entitled To, it explains it all. |
