What are my chances at getting into U of Miami Law School?
My LSAT score was 155. My GPA is 3.5 and my undergraduate degree is in nursing. Thanks for any input!

Check out Lsac.org, they have some great stats. Lawschoolnumbers.com is good for fun, but they rely on data from student self-reporting, which is notoriously inaccurate. as many studente embellish. For the U, they classify students as good possible, possible, and unlikely. With a 3.5/155, you are a possible. A 160 LSAT would make you a good possibility. FSU and U of F have more data available. Basically, with a 3.5/160, your chance of admission is better than 90%. But with a 3.5/155, the chance of admission drops to 20%. I'm guessing the U has similar stats. To be in that number who gets in, you would need to present something extraordinary to stand out among similar applicants. This could be a high class rank (your LSDAS report compares your UGPA with the average for your school and the average GPA of other LSAT takers from your college), or work experience (there are very few nurses in law school), or if you are disadvantaged somehow. Bottom line, if your LSDAS report shows that your 3.5 came from a school where the average GPA was a 3.0, it puts you at the top of your undergrad class, and you become a more competitive candidate. I don't recommend any other law schools in Florida. They are poor quality and have horrific grading curves that attrition at least 20% and make sure the top 20% can't transfer (and a low GPA hurts your job placement). If you are willing to look outside Florida, Mercer, LSU, and Ole Miss are great law schools where you would have a much better chance of being admitted. The good news is that there are good law schools out there for you. Good luck |

Just applied and see if they will accept you. They say the acceptance rate on UM is around 40% of applicant. |

You have a decent chance of being admitted. Hourumd.com, which uses LawSchoolNumbers.com data, predicts that your odds are around 60%. When I look at the raw data, I see that Miami lets in most individuals with a 155 or higher. If you'd been a 154, your chances of admission would have been dramatically worse, believe it or not, because 155 seems to be Miami's bottom line. |
