Verbal Hiring Commitments?

I began a position a little over three months ago. During my on-site interview I was told that parking would be compensated for by the company, as well as I would recieve a food stipend weekly.

When I was verbally offered the position over the phone I was told what my compensation was, inclusive of the free parking and the food stipend.

It has been sometime now and it appears that the company has chosen not to provide me with the free parking, nor the food stipend. All and all this is almost $2,500 a year that I'm losing (Parking is $500 alone) in compensation. I took into account these elements of my offer and found it comparable to other offers because of the elements.

Any suggestions? I have asked my supervisor again and again, but they have not provided a response.

My supervisor has not flat out said "no" however they have not resolved the problem. It's almost worse because they have kept hope alive.

Is there any legal recourse?

No, these elements are not provided in my written contract b/c it is a very general contract. I am a non-hourly position with a contracted salary.

...and no, I'm not going to base my career choices off of Yahoo! Answers, but insight or thoughts regarding this might get my brain stimulated about what to do.

Okay, first of all, it is ignorant to say that only legitimate companies own their own parking garage. Apparently someone does not have experience working in downtown. There are plenty of legitimate businesses that "do not own their own parking garage" and have to reimburse parking fees as a benefit.

With that said, he is correct that you should have insisted that it was provided in writing. That doesn't necessarily bar you from legal action though. The real question is whether or not you are prepared to spend the legal fees to regain the $2,500 you are losing in salary. This is the basis any attorney will use to determine whether or not it is worth taking. You can take them to small claims and go pro se, but if they have an attorney, you will need to hire an attorney. Being a paralegal, I can tell you that $2,500 will be eaten up in a heart beat. While they won't be able to retaliate against you, it will make for an uncomfortable working situation, so that has to be taken into account as well. I think you will have to weigh the fight. Do you think they will be honest in a deposition or in answering discovery and admit that they did promise you those benefits and just chose not to give them to you? It is my personal opinion that if you are considering suing your workplace, then maybe a new workplace is in order. Good luck with whatever route you choose.

You should have got everything in writing before accepting the job.

A legitimate company should have its own parking facilities. Not sure why you would expect an employer to feed you while at work
