So I met this bloke, he was clearly loaded and I was wondering what he did for a living...?

I was at work at met a guy who clearly made a killing, and I asked him what he did with himself.
He took out a badge...it was in his wallet, looked like a cop badge...all gold. Anyways he described his job as "if you got arrested at 12am...I'm the guy who comes round to the police station and decides whether your eligible for bail or not. I'm on call 24/7"
From what I gathered he works with the cops, but he's not a cop. And for some reason he had a badge. Lawyer maybe? What do you guys reckon his job was?
