Should weed be made legal?

If it's proven to be less harmful than alcohol than how bad can it be???

I'm always reading stuff about marijuana causing illness and memory loss and stuff like that, but then I read that all that stuff is a myth. Others say that it's relaxing and calms you down. Has anyone even died from smoking weed because I've never heard of it causing death to anybody?

Let me know your thoughts, and if any of you have actually experienced with marijuana before then let me know if it does do in any real damage to you.

Marijuana is a wonderful drug that should be legalized, whether you smoke it or not once you find out about it, you will want it legal....

quick fact: marijuana is impossible to overdose on.

i recommend you check this site out for all the myths and facts http://www.drugpolicy.org/marijuana/factŠ it has some myths about F*** up lies that where used way back in the day also, like marijuana making men grow boobs (gotta admit, i'd give me something to play with when high) but its not true.. most of the myths however are serious things people believe, and it turns out, that they are no more than a myths.

you should also watch the movie The Union, and the movie Grass, because there is so much to explain about weed that i can't say it all... and these movies do an excellent job of letting you know what you need to.

but for the most part, it all started once alcohol prohibition ended.... hemp was threatening rich Assholes because hemp could be used to make paper, plastics, clothing, and fuel.. also, hemp seeds are great for your health... but all this means is competition for oil companies (due to plastics made from oil and the hemp fuel). Now marijuana is related to hemp, and so lies spread that marijuana was bad for you, and that it was the number 1 threat to the USA... these lies where put out there to make marijuana illegal because if you make marijuana illegal, hemp is also made illegal, and so it was. (also hemp products are more environmentally friendly, not only the products them self, but also there production)

the US then took these views that marijuana is bad to the rest of the world, and marijuana was made illegal almost everywhere across the glob...

fast forward to a time like to day, and there is still this idea that weed is bad for you and should be made illegal. The only reason why this was still the case is partly due to what happened back in the 1930s outlawing hemp... but also because marijuana is great medicine, and so pharmaceutical companies profit from it being illegal because pharmaceutical companies can't sell weed because people can grow that medicine in their own house...

prison systems make money because they get to put people in jail for doing nothing bad... these people then loose their jobs, their family and so on.

these are just a few of the reasons why the government wants it illegal and they brainwash people into thinking that prohibition is the right answer.

but there are so many reasons why prohibition is bad.... if you out law anything, it will still be supplied, and marijuana is illegal, but still in demand and still being used, this means it becomes really expensive, and gangs make millions off it, gangs then trade weed for guns and hard drugs... this means.. that if you legalize weed, gangs will fall apart, and they will also not grow, because people won't have to go to gangs to get there drugs, and pity offenders wont go to jail (for weed) and come out hardened criminals...

all this is a few of the reasons weed is illegal and why it should be legalized. but the facts are, its healthier than alcohol and tobacco, and marijuana never killed anyone. statistics from counties with more liberalized drug laws show that crime and drug usage has gone down, while drug usage and crime is only going up where drugs are illegal..

I strongly believe marijuana should be legalize and that other soft drugs should be also, while bad drugs should remain illegal, they should be decriminalized so users don't go to jail for them. And if gangs get rich because of hard drugs, then legalize them also, so they the gongs won't have them and so that there potency can be regulated.

also, if marijuana is legalized, you need to be old enough to buy it, if you are a little kid, you can buy off a dealer, if its legal, its like alcohol, and you won't be able to.

Absolutely not. Anyone can spin any data to prove whatever point they wish. Whether or not it's more or less harmful than another substance, or harmful in and of itself matters very little. What matters is the choice you're making as to how you live your life.

I've personally tried marijuana, as well as alcohol. Aside from hindering my breathing, it did absolutely no harm to me whatsoever. However, the people I was surrounding myself with as a result of smoking weed -- something that might be very difficult to come to terms with in the first place -- were far, far more the issue.

And therein lies the problem: who is it you want to be? Who do you want to associate yourself with? How do you want to be defined?

Waste less time worrying about the effects of weed and worry more about the effects of the mentality that suggests weed need be a factor in the first place.

Best of luck.

I am a weekly smoker, to give you some incite.

Marijuana is less poisoning than tobacco and alcohol.

Marijuana has less damaging effects from long-term use than Aspirin.

Marijuana has a calming and relaxing effect, while alcohol is truly mind-altering.

Marijuana is the main cash crop of California, and could have brought in over 1 billion dollars in taxes (Marijuana isn't taxed in California).

To be honest, taxing Marijuana could bring America out of the recession.

The only real reason that Marijuana is illeagle is because the Anti-Hemp scare tactics used by the paper companies during the early 1900's.

You have to look at both sides of the debate. Pro-legalization advocates say that it is less harmful than other drugs, that it can be used for medical purposes, and that you can make revenue from it by taxing and regulating it. Anti-legalization advocates say that it doesn't matter how harmful it is, it is still a drug, that it risks an individual's health, and that it sends a bad image. You choose.
