Questions about minimum wage: How employers find ways around it?

I've recently started working with my dad in a factory-type setting. I'm only on my 3rd day so i haven't gotten my pay check but i remember my boss (his as well) saying that he'd start me off on $9/hour. I live in Ontario and i just found out that the current minimum wage is $10.25. I may have heard wrong, or perhaps he isn't aware of the minimum wage? (unlikely) But right now I'm questioning how, if they're able, do employers get around this. I'm not getting paid in cash, I recall my boss jokingly saying how my paycheck would go to my dad's bank account and that my dad would give the money to me. Perhaps this wasn't just a joke? Could this be a way for him to get around the legal minimum wage?

Do NOT approach your boss until you know your rights - and remember if you get up his nose he could fire you.

Find out if you can claim back pay for underpayment after you leave - in some countries and States you can.

You want to check your labor laws, some jobs are exempt from minimum wage standards. Not sure if yours is as you didn't give the specific title, but you can find out from this site.. good luck.
