Where are you?

there are a couple of states in the US that do have a reporting time law BUT generally what you have explained would be one of the exemptions for those laws............

if you are an exempt employee your wages can not be reduced for this day since you were available for work and the employer had no work for you.

if you are in the US and non-exempt then generally all you are owed is wages for the time you actually work......

your employer could make the decision to pay you but that would be a policy decision NOT a legal requirement

In CT, assuming you had a regularly scheduled shift and the employer cancels, you'd have to be paid a minimum (I think 3-4 hours). The laws may be different where you are, and there may be other details to consider (like how much notice they gave you).

In general, your company is only required to pay you for hours actually worked. Had they not called you and told you not to come in, they MAY have been required to pay you a minimum number of hours.

Every country/state/province has their own employment laws, so you should check the laws in your state for a definitive answer.

There's no legal requirement for them to pay you.

Check your local labor laws in NY. This was something out of the control of the employer, I don't think they have to pay you, you may have to wait to get your paycheck. In the meantime, enjoy the day off.
