Is this legal for independent contractors?

I came across a website that's looking for independent contractors. In their fine print they say if we terminate you, you cannot mention our name when filing for unemployment. Can they do that?

Like these guys where syaing you are an independent contractor you do not get ui benefits as you are not employed.

You are not eligible for unemployment as an independent contractor unless you elect to self cover yourself and pay in premiums to the state unemployment fund. You are not an 'employee.'

Their "fine print" does not matter at all - when someone is an independent contractor, they receive a 1099 form instead of filing a W2, where taxes are deducted; as with any company, if the employee is fired, then he/she cannot collect UI benefits anyway

Yes and No. As an independent contractor you are actually self employed, so they don't matter to the unemployment office anyway.
