Is there any certificates in jouranlism that would substitute a degree?

I already have a degree in a different field and I am hoping to pursue my jouranlism instead of my current field, and I am hoping to find a certificate that would qualify me to do that without having to go back to school for 4 years....Names and links please...

Thank you

The previous poster is correct. My sister is the entertainment editor for a newspaper here in Texas. Most of her colleagues do not have a "journalism" degree.

On a side note, I would reconsider journalism. Her paper just downgraded and now they only have six staff running the paper with their copy desk and other parts of the paper outsourced to other cities. It is a dying field, my friend. You didn't specify what type of journalism you wanted to do, but regardless, it is a dying field.

There is no requirement to have a journalism degree to be a journalist. My undergrad degree was in Economics and I was a TV reporter (general assignments & business) for several years.

You might consider taking some J classes at a nearby university.

Print Media is dieing. Electronic media is do pretty well and there are a lot of opertunities now that weren't avaialble when I was in the business. Back then you worked for a local station then you worked for a local station in a larger market and then if you were lucky you kept moving up to the network or one of the top 5 markets.

Today with all of the cable networks there are way more mid and top level positions.

If you want to go into journalism, I'd suggest that you learn how to spell it. Employers are picky about things like that.
