Is it legal for a company to make you work 7 days a week?

There is a rumor going around my husband's job that they are going to make the employees work 7 straight days until sometime in May. When he was hired it was for 5 days, now they are working 6. I'm not resenting the opportunity to work, I'm thankful that he has a job (we have a 3 month old & went over a month with no income after he was laid off, I don't miss that!) But this is a very physically demanding job & he's exhausted as it is. I don't think it would be possible to put his body through that nonstop for the next month! Is it legal for a company to make their employees work for that long of a period without a day off? I'm not sure if this varies from state to state, so if it matters this is for North Carolina. The Department of Labor website was a little too confusing for me, so I thought I'd see if anyone knew. Thanks!

They can't make him work 7 days a week - he has a right to quit if he isn't willing. But if they schedule him for 7 days and he refused, they legally can, and probably will, fire him and replace him with someone who will.

I'm not trying to minimize that it'll be tough on him, but there's nothing illegal about it.

As long as he us above age.. over 18,, there are really no rules to how many days a company can make some work in a row.. there are different rules when it comes to the time between shifts. most states say an employee has be given over 8 hours between shifts, but that can be overlooked too.

most employees with out a contract will be treated how every they are treated until they say something, and then if the company wants to , they can just fire them for what ever reason they want.

i would put up with it for the next month.. or until he finds a different job,, but then at the new job, the same thing might happen..
