Is it legal for a company to make you work 7 days a week?
There is a rumor going around my husband's job that they are going to make the employees work 7 straight days until sometime in May. When he was hired it was for 5 days, now they are working 6. I'm not resenting the opportunity to work, I'm thankful that he has a job (we have a 3 month old & went over a month with no income after he was laid off, I don't miss that!) But this is a very physically demanding job & he's exhausted as it is. I don't think it would be possible to put his body through that nonstop for the next month! Is it legal for a company to make their employees work for that long of a period without a day off? I'm not sure if this varies from state to state, so if it matters this is for North Carolina. The Department of Labor website was a little too confusing for me, so I thought I'd see if anyone knew. Thanks!

They can't make him work 7 days a week - he has a right to quit if he isn't willing. But if they schedule him for 7 days and he refused, they legally can, and probably will, fire him and replace him with someone who will. |

As long as he us above age.. over 18,, there are really no rules to how many days a company can make some work in a row.. there are different rules when it comes to the time between shifts. most states say an employee has be given over 8 hours between shifts, but that can be overlooked too. |
