My aunts job usually does 7.5 hours, now they are making the workers work 8 hours and are not paying them for the extra .5 hours. Can a company do that?

Well it is not illegal since the company has power over what they pay their workers. This is one reason government enforcement should have more control on companies, IMO. CEOs, in this case, are going to be taking all the money and the workers are left with nothing. When in doubt, I think worker's pool money should be much greater than the CEO's that merely stand and watch over. |

They are allowed to lower pay as long as the employees are still making minimum wage and are told about it before the work any time at the new, lower rate, so depending on how it's done it might be legal. If they have a stated hourly rate and the number of hours is changed, they'd have to be paid for the 8 hours at whatever their rate is unless it's stated that the new hourly rate is xxx and they're paid at that new rate. So what sounds like a simple question really isn't, would need more background.. |
