I am in the United States and as far as I know, there are no regulations concerning lifting.

If they did tell you that moving those containers was part of the job when you applied you are probably without recourse.

When I worked in retail I regularly lifted cartons weighing 65 pounds (29.5 kg) and was fine with it. The important thing is to know how to lift things while protecting your back. You have to let your legs do most of the lifting then your arms, chest, and shoulders the rest. You try to keep your back out of it as much as possible until lifting properly becomes habit.

All the same your company should provide some instruction on safe lifting.

Oh please!!!

If you don't know how to lift that properly then you should not be allowed out on your own.
