I have bills on the 5th and our next payday is the 10th. Can they legally make me wait 2 more weeks for the money i earned or is there a regulation or law saying they must pay me sooner in Mississippi?

Have you asked your employer?

how were you shorted a week?

are you sure you are short?

is this your first check?

i ask these questions because there are a lot of young, first time employed people on Y!A that ask questions concerning pay, generally they just don't understand how pay-periods, and paydays work............

if it is an error the employer generally has until the next payday to correct it,

if this happens regularly then this is not an error, and it is then a violation of the payday laws....

generally when it is an error the employer will correct it sooner if possible, try talking to your employer and see if this can be resolved quickly

There is no timeline. But they need time to correct an honest mistake. If you wanted to file a legal claim it would likely fall beneath the priority of the many other people filing complaints who have not been paid at all. I suggest you speak directly with the payroll department rather than just going by whatever your supervisor might be telling you.
