I've just been fired from my part time job at a chemist due to a customer stealing £600's worth of cosmetics. I didn't tell my boss about this, i kept this to myself. They are now refusing to pay me a months wages (about £200). Can they do this?

They can't withhold pay for a period you have actually worked. If they think you are liable for the £600 then they should pay your wages, then sue you for it.

Go to your local Citizens Advice Bureau, or speak to a solicitor.

A customer stole £600 in goods which you knew about but didn't tell anyone.

I think even if you went to a tribunal, you wouldn't win, and aside from that you've probably wrecked your chances of future employment

If it is for work completed they should pay you. If you get paid for the month ahead of time then no they do not have to pay you. btw... i would tell them about the customer so they can watch the videos and see who the person is and maybe you can keep your job.

If you do not let your boss know about this stealing then in the police investigation they can prove it that you were intentionally involved in that stealing,so its better to tell your boss about this else call the police

They have to pay you work completed.

Go to your local County Court and ask them for a claim form to fill in. I don't know how much it is now, but it was £30 eight years ago.
